These are close-up looks at a few faux finish looks.  Look also at the underlying textures which are the foundation of the final finish.  As the finish colors (basecoat and the number of colored glazed coats applied) are enhanced by the type of texture on which they are applied. 

Generally, a softer the texture (orange peel, for example) equals a softer faux finish;  a "rougher" the texture (knock-down, skip-trowel, scallop, etc.) provides more ridges, nooks and crannies for the glaze coats in which to hang-up giving a more dramatic finish.
